Denture Care FAQ

When it comes to taking care of your dentures, you can rely on Peach Street Dental & Dentures. Located in Erie, PA, our denture care center is here to answer your questions and provide you with quality, custom-crafted dentures and other dental services.

How helpful are dentures?

Losing your teeth can be a painful, life-altering event. We can help you restore your teeth and oral health by providing you with comfortable dentures customized to your natural smile.

Dentures are expensive. Do you provide estimates?

We provide every patient with a detailed estimate on the cost of their treatment plans, verbally and in writing. The confidence and comfort you can get with dentures are invaluable. We offer our patients affordable prices and financial options because we believe everyone deserves to feel good about their smile.

How long do dentures last?

If properly maintained and taken care of, dentures can last anywhere from five and seven years. Dentures wear down with age and stain over time like natural teeth. They require periodic adjustments. We advise seeing your dentist annually for a denture check-up. You should always notify your dentist of any minor changes you notice with your dentures.

Will dentures affect my speech & appearance?

We’ll customize your dentures to restore the function of your teeth and soften any pronounced facial lines caused by missing teeth. To help us get an accurate impression of your smile, we’ll position your teeth in wax. During this “try-in” period, we will discuss your cosmetic goals and make adjustments to your dentures.

How will dentures affect my ability to eat?

It takes time and patience to get accustomed to your dentures — but many patients get used to them quickly. When it comes to biting and chewing, there is an adjustment period, but our dentists are here to help you overcome any challenges.

How long does it take to adjust to dentures?

It can take some time to get accustomed to your dentures. They can feel strange or feel big at first. You may also experience an increase in saliva production. Within a week or so, your dentures will soon start to feel more comfortable as your facial muscles and oral tissues adapt to them.

What’s the best way to clean dentures?

It’s recommended to clean your dentures after every meal. Make sure you always clean your dentures over a soft surface, such as a towel, in case you drop them. Gently brush your dentures with a denture brush, using lukewarm water and denture cleaner.

Will dentures affect my speech?

You may notice subtle differences in your speech after you first start wearing dentures. As your mouth adjusts to your dentures, these will begin to subside and your normal speech will resume.

Is it a good idea to remove my dentures at night?

Generally, it’s recommended to take your dentures out at night when not in use. Doing so at nighttime can give your gums and surrounding tissue time to recover when salivary flow is lower. Depending on your case, your dentist may permit you to wear your dentures at night.

Should I use store-bought denture liners?

We recommend not attempting to reline your dentures because it could potentially damage them. If you have issues with your dentures, call us at (814) 866-7500
